It is an annual ceremony usually held on February 14 for celebrating love and warmness between lovers or couples. The name of the day is derived after one or two martyrs were named by Valentine. It was found by Pope Gelasius I in 500 A.D. legends say that there was a priest in the role of the Roman Emperor Claudius II named Valentine. Claudius ordered that young men must remain single supposing that would enlarge and empower his army, believing that marriage does not make good soldiers. The priest Valentine, however, continued performing marriage ceremonies for young men and when the emperor discovered that he sent Valentine to jail. Nowadays, lovers celebrate Valentine's Day by sending flowers, presents, and greeting cards to each other.
